Shaking off the stereotypes. BRB: In our Smashing Gender Biases Era. Warning information provided may shift your world view and perspective. |
Q: Are we *finally* surpassing the age-old clichΓ©s?
Mayyyyyybeeee...
But have we REALLY moved beyond them?
IMO: it's time we take a leaf out of Taylor Swift's play book when it comes to gender stereotypes...
In a bold move for International Women's Day 2022, CPB London launched a campaign that didn't just walk the talk—they danced through the talk, aiming to harmonize gender diversity by spotlighting our hidden biases. Themed 'Break The Bias,' this campaign pirouetted across the UK through socials, the grand stages of OOH, and the silver screens of cinemas.
Diving into the minds of our future leaders, CPB London orchestrated a symphony of insights from 1,000 UK parents and their primary school-aged maestros, revealing a tune that might seem out of key for some. The study hit a high note, uncovering that gender bias might just be the unwelcome opening act in life's concert.
Stats
π©⚕️ 45% of mini maestros (ages 5-11) believing nursing is a women-only show
π¨⚕️ 22% shining the spotlight on men as the go-to doctors
π·π»♂️ While nearly half of these young virtuosos cast men in the lead role of engineering
TLDR;
It's clear the script needs rewriting.
Yet, in a heartwarming U-turn of events, 94% of these young stars believe their dreams shouldn't be boxed into a genre—they're free to be whoever they want to be.
Helen James, the managing director at CPB London, takes the stage to remind us: "Despite the encores of progress, it's striking how some old stereotypes still ring true about the roles of women and men."
She hopefully notes that: "And when these are views held by our children – our future – that tells us we have so much work yet to do to create a world where your gender makes no difference to what you can achieve."
Thanks to our future bright minds, it's our cue to pave the way for a world where gender doesn't dictate your role. Imagine a world where gender truly makes no difference π«
